Decision ID: 001973

In October 2006 the 1992 Fund Executive Committee considered that in view of the likelihood that a significant quantity of oil remained in the wreck, the seismic activity in the vicinity of the wreck and its close proximity to sensitive economic and environmental resources, the indicative costs of removing the oil from the wreck were not disproportionate to the risks of pollution damage resulting from further releases of oil. The Committee therefore decided that the claim for the cost of removing the oil from the wreck was admissible in principle.
