In October 1988 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee expressed its satisfaction with the out-of-court settlement in respect of the legal action taken by the Fund and the French Government against the shipowner and third parties, which had resulted in the Fund recovering £9.5 million. The Committee endorsed the position taken by the Director regarding certain problems in connection with the final payment of fees and expenses and discrepencies between the amounts accepted for some claims under the two Conventions.
