In April 1983 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee accepted the agreement reached between the French Government and the Fund that, for the purpose of distributing the amount of compensation available under the Conventions among the different claimants, the Government’s claim was settled for FFr 327 million, noting that the French Government had maintained its right to claim the full amount of its claim against the shipowner and other parties.
