Decision ID: 002765

In October 2000 the 1971 Fund Administrative Council decided that it would not be appropriate to appoint a liquidator in the normal sense to deal with the liquidation of the 1971 Fund, but that the liquidation should be dealt with by the organs of the 1971 Fund. The Council noted that the 1992 Fund Assembly had decided at its 5th (October 2000) session to maintain the existing arrangement under which the 1992 Fund shared a Secretariat and a common Director with the 1971 Fund, in order to ensure the efficient handling of pending incidents involving the 1971 Fund and the orderly winding up of that Organisation. The Administrative Council agreed that the present arrangement should be maintained. The Administrative Council noted that the Assembly had further decided that if the 2000 Protocol to the 1971 Fund Convention did not enter into force the Assembly would reconsider the 1992 Fund’s involvement in the administration of the 1971 Fund. The Administrative Council decided that an eminent person outside the 1971 Fund should be appointed to oversee the winding up of the Fund, but that the consideration of the person to be appointed should be postponed.
