In April 2000 the 1992 Fund Assembly instructed the Director to make document 92FUND/A/ES.4/3, on the procedure for increasing the maximum amount of compensation available under the 1992 Civil Liability Convention and the 1992 Fund Convention, available to the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in order to assist the Legal Committee of IMO in its consideration of the issues involved. He was also instructed to provide such assistance to the IMO Secretariat as might be requested, particularly in the preparation of a detailed analysis of background data on the amount of damage arising from oil spills.
