In February 2004 the 1992 Fund Executive Committee noted that the Court in Corcubión (Spain) was carrying out and investigation into the cause of the incident in the context of criminal proceedings, including the role of the master of the Prestige and of one civil servant who had been involved in the decision not to allow the ship into a port of refuge in Spain. It was also noted that the Permanent Commission of Investigation into Maritime Incidents was gathering the necessary information to be able to issue a report on the incident.
