In December 1995 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee, noting the advice of the Fund’s lawyers that payments to French claimants whose claims were not time-barred could undermine any remaining possibility of arriving at a global settlement and would prejuduce the Fund’s position in the on-going court proceedings in Italy, decided to postpone further consideration of the question of payments to those claimants who had taken the necessary steps to prevent their claims from becoming time-barreed to its 47th session.
