In March 1993 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee agreed that the Director should accept an invitation to give evidence on the functioning of the compensation regime established by the 1969 Civil Liability Convention and the 1971 Fund Convention to an enquiry commissioned by the United Kingdom Government to advise on whether any further measures were appropriate and feasible to protect the United Kingdom coastline from pollution from merchant shipping.
