In March 1993 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee, noting the complexity of the ongoing court proceedings in Italy, which had resulted in delays in compensation payments to victims, instructed the Director to enter into discussions with the Italian and French Governments to explore the possibilities of out-of-court settlements of claims arising out of the incident.
