In September 1983 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee considered at its 10th sesssion, held in private with participation restricted to the representatives of 1971 Fund Member States, the question of whether a claim by the shipowner’s insurer was time-barred. The Committee noted that the insurer preferred to make a statement in writing rather than at the session. At its 11th session, also held in September 1983, the Committee requested the Director to continue to examine this question and authorised him to agree a final settlement with the insurer after having considered all legal aspects of this issue wirh the legal advisers.
