In October 1981 the 1971 Fund Assembly endorsed the recommendation of the Working Group that expenses for research studies should be compensated under the 1969 Civil Liability and 971 Fund Conventions only if the studies were carried out as a direct consequence of a particular oil spill and as part of the spill response.
