In April 2002 the 1992 Fund Assembly considered a request for observer status by the Conference of Peripheral Maritime Regions (CPMR). Noting that CPMR was a European organisation, and therefore not of a truly international character, the Assembly decided to grant observer status on a provisional basis and to re-examine the status of CPMR at a later stage. The Assembly also decided to consider at its 7th (October 2002) session whether future requests for observer status should be examined by a small working group.
