In October 1997 the 1971 Fund Assembly elected Mr C Coppolani (France) as Chairman, Mr A H E Popp (Canada) as first Vice-Chairman and Mrs I Barinova (Russian Federation) as second Vice-Chairman to hold office until the next regular session of the Assembly. The Chairman stated that, since France would not be a Member of the 1971 Fund after 15 May 1998, he would not be able to exercise the function of Chairman after that date and would be replaced ex officio by the first Vice-Chairman.
