In October 1996 the 1971 Fund Assembly gave further consideration to the advisability of establishing an Audit Committee. The Assembly decided that an open consultation group should be established, led by the Chairman of the Assembly, to review the system of financial control of the 1971 Fund and to make proposals, if appropriate, for improvements in the system. The Assembly invited those delegations who were interested in participating in the consultation group to inform the Secretariat.
