In June 2001 the 1992 Fund Executive Committee and the 1971 Administrative Council instructed the Director to pursue discussions with the Japanese Government, the shipowner and his insurer on outstanding claims and issues and to explore the possibilities of reaching a global settlement of all outstanding issues.
