Decision ID: 001018

In April 1999 the 1971 Fund Executive noted that the lawyers representing two groups of claimants in the fishery, aquaculture and mariculture sectors had indicated that their clients were prepared to agree with the Fund to suspend, provisionally, litigation before the Spanish courts, both as regards the procedure for the execution of the criminal judgement and as regards the civil proceedings, in order to facilitate negotiations between the Fund and the Spanish Government. The Committee decided to authorise the Director to agree with the claimants to request the court to suspend the legal proceedings, provided that the Director, after consultation with the Fund’s lawyer, was of the view that such a suspension would not prejudice the Fund’s position.
