In October 1994 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee considered a claim by an organisation of tourism-related businesses (Shetland Island Tourism) relating to the cost of a marketing campaign to counteract the negative effect of the incident on tourism. The Committee rejected the claim on the grounds that it did not fulfil the Fund’s admissibility criteria in that the Shetland tourism industry as a whole had not suffered to the extent alleged by the organisation and that it was unlikely that there would be any significant future losses.
