In October 1995 the 1971 Fund Assembly instructed the Director to represent the 1971 Fund at the International Conference on Hazardous and Noxious Substances and Limitation of Liability convened by the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), to be held from 15 April to 3 May 1996, and to make interventions as appropriate in respect of issues where the Fund’s experience in operating the system of liability and compensation for oil pollution damage could be of benefit to the Conference.
