In April 1999 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee noted that the Spanish Government had indicated its agreement to extending the period for the 1971 Fund to take recourse action to 12 June 2000. The Committee authorised the Director to conclude an agreement with the Spanish State to this effect as soon as possible and instructed him that, if an agreement on such an extension wee not signed by 21 May 1999, he should make the necessary preparations for taking recourse action against the Spanish State by 12 June 1999 in order to preserve the Fund’s rights, pending resolution of the disagreement between the State and the Fund.
