In February 1999 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee decided to oppose a mediation decision by the Korean Court awarding compensation to unlicensed fishing boat claimants, since the position taken by the Court was at variance with the 1971 Fund’s policy in respect of the admissibility of claims by unlicensed fishermen, ie that fishermen operating in contravention of licensing requirements were not eligible for compensation.
