In June 1997 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee decided that, whilst it appeared unlikely that the established claims would exceed the limitation amount applicable to the ship, the Director was authorised to make final settlements as to quantum and to make payments in respect of all claims arising out of the incident, to the extent that the claims did not give rise to questions of principle that had not previously been decided by the Committee.
