In October 1988, in a closed session, the Assembly decided that the post of Director should be upgraded to that of Assistant Secretary-General in the United Nations system at a salary equivalent to the holder of such office, that the post of Legal Officer should be upgraded to P.5/D.1 and that the post of Finance/Personnel Officer should be upgraded to P.2/P.3, the point in the salary scale of these two posts to be determined by the qualifications and experience of the respective incumbents.
