In October 1996 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee decided, in view of the decision taken by the 1971 Fund Assembly at its 18th (October 1995) session concerning the issue of a global settlement, to refer to the Assembly the question of the position to be taken by the Fund in the light of settlements made by the shipowner/insurer.
