In October 1999 the 1992 Fund Assembly considered the issue of whether steps should be taken at an early stage to amend Article 36 of the Final Clauses of the 1992 Protocol to the 1971 Fund Convention in order to facilitate the winding up of the 1992 Fund in the future, should the need arise. The Assembly decided that it was premature to request the Secretary-General of IMO to convene a Diplomatic Conference to consider such an amendment.
