In March 2006 the 1992 Fund Executive Committee decided that, in view of the size of the claim by the French Government in respect of clean-up costs in relation to the maximum amount of money likely to be available for payment of that claim, a full assessment of the claim could not be justified and that a broad assessment was an acceptable approach. It was noted, however, that the assessment would be without prejudice to the French Government’s position in any recourse action against third parties.
