In May 2004 the 1992 Fund Executive Committee, recalling that the public prosecutor had appealed against the judgement of the Criminal Court in Lorient, which had held that the act of attacking the Claims Handling Office fell within the scope of a law on amnesty, noted that the Court of Appeal in Rennes had rendered a decision confirming the judgement of the first instance Court with regard to the act of the attack, but ordered the attacker to pay compensation to the Fund and the shipowner’s insurer for the damage caused to the office. It was noted that the attacker had appealed against this judgement before the Court of Cassation.
