A9.In May 2002 the 1992 Fund Executive Committee considered the question of the admissibility of claims from businesses located in the Côtes-d’Armor (an area of northern Brittany unaffected by oil). The Committee noted that six of these claims had been rejected on the grounds that there was not a sufficient degree of proximity between the contamination resulting from the incident and the alleged loss, mainly due to lack of geographic proximity, and that the remainng six claims were being examined. The Committee decided that such claims should be considered on the same basis as those from businesses some distance from the coast, namely that each claim should be examined individually in order to establish whether there was a link of causation between the alleged loss and the contamination.
