Decision ID: 000754
In April 1997 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee noted that the State of Venezuela had presented a claim against the shipowner, the master and the shipowner’s insurer before the Civil Court in Caracas and had requested that the Fund be notified as an interested party. The Committee also noted that the Venezuelan State had requested the Court to arrest the ship and order the shipowner/insurer to provide security to avoid arrest. The Committee instructed the Director to contact the Venezuelan Government to provide information regarding the functioning of the regime of liability and compensation established by the 1969 Civil Liability and 1971 Fund Conventions.
