In October 1995 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee considered a claim for losses resulting from the forced sale of three fishing vessels by a company, allegedly due to its deteriorating financial situation brought about by the effects of the pollution. The Committee rejected the claim on the grounds that the alleged losses could not be considered as damage caused by contamination, but were due to the claimant’s decision to sell the boats.
