Decision ID: 000257

In June 1993 the 1971 Fund Executive Committee invited the regional authorities and cultivators of mussels, salmon, oysters and scallops in the area affected by the Aegean Sea incident to give the experts engaged by the shipowner, the P&I insurer and the Fund access to the mariculture sites to enable these experts to take samples in order to facilitate the assessment of claims for compensation. The Director was instructed to endeavour to keep alive a representative portion of mussels and other species to be destroyed for the purpose of monitoring the evolution of tainting in order to enable the Fund to assess the extent of the contamination of the produce in the future.
